The Arnewood School in New Milton is celebrating a record number of grade 9s – the new top GCSE grade that even beats the old A*.

Fourteen of its highflying students scored between them an outstanding 48 grade 9s.

The new grade 9 is designed to be so tough to obtain that very few are expected to be awarded across the country.

But one pair from Arnewood who are on cloud nine is Emma Hardy and Joe Constable who each achieved eight grade 9s.

Other high achievers included Lily Romley who came away with three grades 9s and six grade 8s; Charlotte Robinson-Green with five grade 9s and a grade 8; Ben Emecz who achieved three grade 9s and five grade 8s; Monica Banto who scored four grade 9s and three grade 8s; Tommy Rose who has two grade 9s and five grade 8s and Holly Ankers with three grade 9s and three grade 8s.

Also achieving at least one grade 9 Pat Bourne, Alex Charles, Adam Dyson, Joss Grimwood, Freya Wood and Madelin Whitmee.
