Deep South clients hit the headlines

How we helped our clients reach millions of readers and viewers. Latest highlights, December 2011.

Britain's first Olympic gold

Our client gained extensive national and regional media coverage, including a page lead story in The Times (446,000 daily circulation), after donating a headstone commemorating the achievements of forgotten Olympic hero Charles Bennett.

The 'Shapwick Express' won Britain's first Olympic gold for athletics in 1900. Anthony Ives Memorials of Bournemouth donated the headstone after hearing about his previous modest grave. He died in 1948 at the age of 78.

Regional boost for charity campaign

We led a regional PR campaign for a national children's charity which generated positive coverage on the front page of the Manchester Evening News, coverage on SKY Sports, Granada TV and BBC News Online, as well as extensive radio coverage and page leads in the Jersey Evening Post, Rugby Advertiser and Bournemouth Daily Echo and others.

£6m property deal

We secured widespread coverage in the national and regional property press in connection with a £6m deal which saw a successful industrial park near Southampton change hands, with regional real estate adviser Hughes Ellard acting on behalf of the seller, a pension fund.

Britain's first hospital

Thousands of pounds' worth of media coverage was generated in advance of Clive Emson Auctioneers' latest sales in mid-December, with various regional newspapers across the South Coast carrying prominent stories in print and online.

Newsworthy lots included a historic chapel on the border of Chatham and Rochester in Kent, credited as Britain's first hospital, dating back to 1078, and a prominent nightclub on the Plymouth waterfront.

Homebuyers' manuals

We highlighted the rapid growth of a homebuyers' manuals firm. Regional coverage included a front page splash in the Hampshire Chronicle business supplement, a front page 'teaser' and prominent inside picture page lead in Hampshire Business, plus stories in the Southern Daily Echo, The News (Portsmouth), South West Business Insider, Commercial News Media and Eastleigh News, with an overall media audience reach of more than 300,000.

We brokered a London meeting so the company MD could meet a hard-to-reach trade sector features editor, with a view to generating more stories to come.

Retail brands on Facebook

We helped raise the profile in technology, advertising and marketing media of a new start-up company in Brighton that helps retail brands devise and implement communications campaigns on Facebook.

We arranged a meeting with a leading technology journalist and issued an introductory profile story, scoring coverage on various sector websites.

Interviewed by The Guardian

We brokered an interview for The Guardian (261,000) with a customer of a geospatial services client in North Hampshire. We researched and wrote a contributed article on the client's work in the solar power sector for a respected industry magazine.

Media sequel to attacks on buses

We co-ordinated print, online and broadcast coverage, including a live broadcast on BBC South Today, after handling the announcement that Yellow Buses was to temporarily withdraw services from a Bournemouth estate following attacks on its vehicles.

Award-winning care homes

We signed up Colten Care as a new retained client and subsequently achieved coverage for the award-winning care home company in print, web and broadcast media including Meridian TV, bbc.co.uk and local and specialist trade titles.

Spotlight on Jason's Cradle

We brought Princecroft Willis client Jason's Cradle to the attention of more than 300,000 readers after generating coverage in five local titles including full-page stories in the Bournemouth Daily Echo and Dorset Business Magazine.

School magazines

We produced a new school magazine for a large Bournemouth federated secondary – now Deep South Media's second retained school magazine – to go out to more than 1,000 parents and also available online. Schools are now mini-businesses, with their incomes dependent on pupil numbers, so the need to ensure their profile is raised locally has never been more important.

Other work carried out by Deep South Media recently includes:

  • PRODUCING newspapers and magazines for five county, borough and district councils, reaching 414,000 homes across the south and south west.
  • PROVIDING realistic media training for senior-level figures at various companies and organisations.
  • PROMOTING a regional business membership organisation's inaugural annual conference in Winchester with pre-publicity plus photography on the day, tweets, review press releases and business magazine story. The exposure helped raise the client's overall media audience for the month to 2.9 million readers, viewers and listeners.
  • PUBLICISING new qualification and skills training relationships between businesses across the region and local schools in the hospitality and retail sectors. New qualifications have been launched which have been designed by local businesses (to ensure tomorrow's workforce have the skills they need) and are now being taught to youngsters in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.
