TAKING THE FIRM TO NEW HEIGHTS: Alison Lee, MD of Biscoes, on the Cantilever Stone at Gylder Fach during the LawNet Challenge 2016

An adventurous team has taken law firm Biscoes to new heights and raised cash for charity by completing a strenuous challenge in Snowdonia.

The trio of Managing Director Alison Lee, HR Assistant Charlotte Cobb and Solicitor Ali Lee-Smith spent 10 hours trekking in north Wales, reaching the 940m summit of Glyder Fach, one of the highest mountains in Britain.

They were taking part in the annual team-bonding exercise the LawNet Challenge and their efforts have so far boosted the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) by £530.

MD Alison whose firm has six offices, in Portsmouth, Gosport, Portchester, Wickham, Waterlooville and Petersfield, said: “It was pretty hard work, but we enjoyed every minute of it – and managed to raise cash for such a worthy cause.”

The Biscoes threesome was among teams from legal practices participating in the demanding event organised by LawNet, the UK and Ireland’s leading national law firm network.

Their Snowdonia National Park route in the Glyderau range included the Devil’s Kitchen deep rock cleft and the 918m mountain Tryfan with its famous twin monoliths known as Adam and Eve.

Alison added: “The scenery was stunningly beautiful and despite the arduous nature of some of the ascents we managed to complete the hike in 10 hours.

“The MND Association, a cause close to our heart, is the only national charity dedicated to improving care and support for people affected by the disease, as well as funding and promoting research, campaigning and raising awareness.”

Biscoes has set up a Just Giving page – www.justgiving.com/Biscoes – for donations with the target of raising £2,000 by the end of the year, aided by a number of other events including a Christmas raffle and Christmas card tree.

Alison, also Chair of the Trustees for Portsmouth FC-affiliated charitable trust Pompey in the Community, said: “We have a strong corporate social responsibility policy in Biscoes and have also sponsored the Rowan’s Hospice Midnight Walk for several years.”

Biscoes, which has 100 staff and was awarded Hampshire Law Society Firm of the Year (Small) 2016, was admitted as a full member of LawNet last September, aligning them with other well-regarded firms through a collaborative support group. Membership is by invitation and firms have to meet stringent entry standards.

The firm is also a member of a number of professional associations, including the Law Society, Hampshire Law Society, The Notaries Society, the Charity Law Association, Portsmouth Property Association and Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.

Subsequently in 2005 a merger with Covers added a Petersfield office to an already impressive list of locations, which was closely followed by the opening of an office in Gosport. In 2006 a Portchester branch was created following the link up with the long established practice of Barry Swanton & Co. In 2016 commercial specialist Graeme Quar & Co also came under the Biscoes Law banner
