The antique selling platform 2Covet that saw a boom during the Covid lockdowns has boosted its staffing numbers to 13 to cope with demand.
Launched a few months before the pandemic struck, the business has grown rapidly and now has more than 12,000 items for sale on its portal.
Founded by dealers Charles Wallrock, from Lymington, Hants, and Steve Sly from Bournemouth, along with online marketing expert Zara Rowe, the 2Covet company has recruited ten staff so far.
Charles said: “The 2Covet business model was prepared and launched just prior to the pandemic.
“When lockdowns were enforced our antiques selling platform came into its own for buyers, collectors and dealers. It speeded up our growth.
“Between March and June 2020 we saw an 283 per cent increase in business and we’ve been growing ever since with more dealers joining all the time.
“This has enabled diversification and we acquired the Chelsea Antiques Fair that is now in its 70th year and is happening at the same time as the Chelsea Flower Show – between September 21 and 26.
“The 2Covet portal was designed to bring buyers and sellers together online and now we can also do it in person at the fair, which will have an eclectic mix of very high-end dealers.
“Out of our success also grew The Antique Marketing Company because those who used 2Covet needed extra help to highlight their businesses and we now have approaching 40 clients.
“2Covet is an enabler – bringing people together to make deals, which of course if the lifeblood of the antiques and collecting world.
“We have recruited more staff at this stage than we had anticipated, but it proves that we are offering what dealers and their clients want.
“The widespread buying and selling of antiques online is here to stay, but fairs and shops are vital and we all hope that the winding down of Covid restrictions will lead to more business being done.”
