Three more apprentices from Dorset’s Wessex Group have become fully qualified and are now working for the family firm.
Electricians Billy Watson, Callum Child and Ryan Guy have spent four years honing their skills within the various companies under the Wessex Group umbrella.
They were on day release at Yeovil College’s north Dorset training centre, which is conveniently next door to the group’s HQ in Shaftesbury.
Each apprentice passed the EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment.
Two of them are now employed at Wessex Electricals and Ryan is working within Wessex Building Services.
Having six companies in the group means the apprentices can move around and get the best grounding possible.
Currently there are 24 apprentices in the group and there is a new intake each year and places are highly coveted
The company has put a great emphasis on training apprentices since retired Group Chairman, Tony Morgan, founded Wessex in 1963.
His first apprentice, Gordon Green, who retired last year, worked his way up to managing director of Wessex Electricals.
Rachel Revell, HR manager at the group, said: “All our apprentices are monitored by highly experienced staff and with our range of businesses they get to learn all aspects of their trade.
“There is also a solid mentoring structure and regular liaison between the apprentice, the various companies and the college.”
Simon Morgan, director of the group, said: “Billy, Callum and Ryan have been working on various contracts across the south west.
“They all now have a wealth of experience and we’re delighted to have them as fully qualified electricians working within the group.”
Within the Wessex Group stable are: Wessex Electricals, Wessex Fire & Security, Wessex Building Services, Wessex Renewable Energy, Wessex HVAC and Plumbing and Wessex Property Care.
It employs around 400 people who work across the south and south west.

Notes to editors: Wessex Group is a collection of companies based in Shaftesbury, Dorset, but working across the south. It began in 1963 when Tony Morgan set up his own electrics firm. The group now consists of numerous companies that install and/or maintains electrics, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, renewable energy, and fire and security systems. Wessex Group employs about 400 staff and in 2013 celebrated its half century by supplying local charities and good causes with “50 things for 50 years”. Tony’s sons Simon and Alistair now head the firm.
