A village hall was alive to the sound of music thanks to the talent of east Dorset school children.

Witchampton First School staged its annual summer concert at the hall, in which they entertained the audience with songs from around the globe.

The children were able to put on a spellbinding performance thanks to weeks of singing lessons from specialist music educator Liz Radford.

These sessions were funded by Dorset Music Service and ensured the youngsters hit all the right notes on the day of the performance.

Acting head of school, Simone Smithson, said: “It was a truly magical concert and the children sang beautifully.

“I would like to thank Liz and Dorset Music Service for putting in so much time and effort in bringing out the wonderful talent in our children.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed their time with Liz, learning about each song and their meanings and then performing them to a packed audience.”

During the concert each year group sang a different song and costumes and dance routines also helped to reflect where the music came from.

It is one of seven First and Middle schools in Wimborne Academy Trust (WAT), along with Allenbourn Middle School, Colehill First School, Hayeswood First School, Merley First School, St Michael’s Middle School and St John’s First School.

WAT was formed in March 2015. All of its academies are rated either Good or Outstanding.
