Staff at Dorset’s Wessex Group handed over a cheque for £900 to Cancer Research UK – in memory of one of their staff.
The amount will go towards the Stand up to Cancer appeal – a major international fundraising effort.
Simon Morgan, director of the group that is based in Shaftesbury, presented the cheque to Melissa Brice, manager of the Cancer Research UK shop in the town.
Wessex Group’s board member Tony Brunt passed away earlier this year and staff held a cake sale, raffle and a dress down day to raise funds.
Simon said: “Our staff decided among themselves to raise some money in memory of Tony.
“The day included a raffle with prizes donated by our suppliers and these included tickets for the Festival of Speed and tickets to see comedian Sean Lock.
“Everyone has been affected by cancer in some way and the more we can do to fund research into this disease then the better for us all.”
Melissa from the charity shop said: “We’re very grateful to the Wessex Group for the donation.
“Finding cures and treatments for cancer is something we are dedicated to, and the more money we raise the better the chances of breakthroughs.”
Stand up to Cancer is a ground-breaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives.
Another amount of £900 was given by Wessex Group the British Red Cross, a charity that Tony Brunt supported before he died.

Wessex Group employs about 400 staff and in 2013 celebrated its half century by supplying local charities and good causes with “50 things for 50 years”.
