Peeky blinder!

Nick Peek, of Peeks, which has seen sales of its tropical lines soar during the heatwave.

Peeks the party supply company saw a spike in sales as Brits splashed out on tropical-themed goodies during the heatwave.

The Dorset-based company doesn’t usually see its range of Hawaii-style products sell in such numbers until the summer holidays.

But the scorching weather saw sales soar as Brits bought up goods to theme their own BBQs and evening drinks parties.

Best sellers include inflatable palm trees that cool drinks, table ware, scene-setters, coconut bikinis, inflatable limbo games and hats.

Sales on its website and through its huge party store in Christchurch were up 25 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Managing director Nick Peek said: “The heatwave really has seen sales of our tropical lines rocket.

“We have had big orders from pub and hotel groups, but individuals have been buying plenty.

“As soon as the sun comes out Brits get out into the garden and light the BBQ. Lots of stock has been bought by those who want to theme their own little events.

“The tableware has been going well, as has our inflatable palm trees that keep drinks cool. Others have bought items for summer-themed fancy dress parties.

“It is August usually when people make these purchases, but the heatwave has brought the sales forward. Cheers!”

Other items that sold well include grass skirts, sunglasses, Hawaiian shirts and backdrops.
