Staff and students at Avonbourne Trust are celebrating after all its academies were judged ‘Good’ across the board.

Avonbourne College, Avonbourne Sixth Form and Avonwood Primary have all been declared ‘Good’ schools following an Ofsted inspection last month.

This follows a Good judgement for the Trust’s other academy, Harewood College, which was inspected in 2015.

CEO of Avonbourne Trust, Debbie Godfrey-Phaure, said: “We are all absolutely thrilled that every academy in the Trust is a Good school.

“We are proud that the inspectors recognised how ambitious we are for all our children, right from reception through to sixth form.

“Staff at the Trust are dedicated to our young people and determined for them to do well. I am so glad that Ofsted have recognised their hard work.

“Most of all we are delighted that the hard work, excellent progress and success of our students has received official praise.”

Following the two-day inspection, the inspectors concluded that the Trust CEO has been continuously ambitious for the academies, resulting in good education for pupils across all phases.

They said teaching is good and supports pupils’ progress and that behaviour of pupils is also good.

Inspectors also highlighted that the care and attention paid to the emotional well-being of the children is a considerable strength.

Ofsted also praised the wealth of activities provided for the children, which pupils thrive on and achieve strong outcomes as a result.

They singled out for praise the Avonbourne College team Project Emerge, whose social enterprise to give loans to entrepreneurs in Third World countries has won national awards.

The inspectors also noted how children in early years are making good progress with Avonwood parents effusive in their praise of the setting.

And the sixth form caters for individual needs, leading to students finding appropriate education, employment and training when they leave.

In her report, lead inspector Kathy Maddocks, said: “The chief executive officer is an excellent role model for leaders and staff at the school.

“Pupils benefit from this because the staff are committed to providing them with a worthwhile education that prepares them well for the future.

“Leaders have ensured that the high expectations are reflected in social and extra-curricular activities. The development in this area is exceptional in some cases.”
