Berry Recruitment’s branch in Truro, Cornwall, has appointed Matt Wolstenholme as a consultant specialising in the technology sector.
Truro has more superfast broadband connections than most European cities and the tech sector in the county is growing at an astonishing pace.
Matt, who previously worked for a specialist digital recruiter in Bristol, is developing the new desk at the branch that earlier this year relocated from Falmouth.
TechNation, which produces the most comprehensive analysis of the UK Digital Tech Ecosystem, reported that in Truro and Redruth 1,380 people are employed in the industry.
The average wage is £31,322 and the tech sector in Cornwall has a 79 per cent growth potential.
With lifestyle being an important part of a candidate’s decision-making process, Cornwall is set to become a major UK tech centre.
Matt, a former national swimmer, said: “I’m recruiting anything technology-based, but particularly software developers.
“There are experienced candidates and more junior ones who have recently graduated, but the shortage comes in the mid-weight category.
“There is lots of contract work – usually lasting between six and eight months – and there are also increasing numbers of permanent positions.
“Joining Berry Recruitment has been a great decision and I anticipate many more technology workers and businesses moving here.”

In the last year the branch has also added a ‘commercial’ desk and has been recruiting heavily in the finance sector and within office recruitment.
It is continuing to recruit in the construction, driving, industrial, hospitality and catering sectors from its premises in Charles Street.
