It’s been five months in the making and when it finally took to the stage a multi-academy production of Sweeney Todd delighted audiences from across Bournemouth.

The 80 strong cast, crew and musicians were made up entirely of students from Avonbourne and Harewood colleges and Avonbourne Sixth Form who have been planning and rehearsing for this mammoth production since May.

They took on this famous musical thriller – which tells the tale of a vengeance seeking Victorian barber, Sweeney Todd, and gruesome pie maker Mrs Lovett – as part of Avonbourne Trust’s bi-annual school production.

Their first performance was in front of Year 6 children from Stourfield Junior School.

And when they won over those youngsters they performed four nights in a row to parents, family, friends and the general public – including a charity gala performance in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

CEO of Avonbourne Trust, Debbie Godfrey-Phaure, said: “Our bi-annual Trust production enables us to celebrate the skills and talents of our young people.

“They give us all the opportunity to see our students’ dedication and commitment and the pride they display in their final production is always a joy to see.

“We are incredibly proud of the many talented young people who have been involved with the show and the truly dedicated teachers who have enabled their students to shine.”

Sweeney Todd is the unsettling tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after fifteen years of exile, set on revenge against the corrupt judge who ruined his life.

When revenge eludes him, Sweeney (played by Reuben Tyler-Wilkinson) swears vengeance, murdering many people.

He is assisted by his sinister business associate, Mrs. Lovett (played by Flynn Criswick) who bakes the bodies into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public.
