A Wimborne school celebrated its 140th birthday by turning the clock back to Victorian times.
St John’s CofE First School, part of Wimborne Academy Trust, transported back to 1877 when pupils and staff wore Victorian costume.
They were also joined by former members of staff and ex pupils for the day-long celebrations.
Head of School, Katharine Anstey, said: “We had a fantastic day marking our 140th birthday.
“It is wonderful knowing that our school has been providing education and serving the local community for more than a century.
“The children had a great time learning about what life was like when the school first opened back in 1877 and we were delighted to welcome back former staff and students to share in our special occasion.”
The birthday celebrations started with a service in the neighbouring St John’s Church attended by children, staff and families.
During the service the congregation sang All Things Bright and Beautiful and a prayer from 1877 was read.
Back in school the children got involved in range of Victorian-inspired activities, including sewing, making book marks and baking cakes.
Victorian artefacts from the school and Priests House museum were also brought in for the youngsters to look at.
And there were drama activities linked to the story Oliver Twist and maypole dancing to entertain the party goers.
The day culminated in a special tea party for past pupils, staff and members of the community.
Old log books, registers and photos were viewed by the guests, with ex pupils from as far back as 1935 finding their own records.
