Trainees at an award-winning Hampshire firm have urged other young people to consider workplace learning during National Apprenticeship Week.
Todd Green and Shane Hutton of Barnbrook Systems Ltd have hailed the success of their apprenticeships as they develop their careers with the Fareham based firm.
The 40-strong engineering and manufacturing company is backing National Apprenticeship Week and will be attending Fareham Apprenticeship and Jobs Fair on Thursday March 8.
Senior design engineer Andrew Gordon, who is responsible for training and himself a former apprentice at Barnbrook Systems, said: “It is important to develop and invest in young employees for the future.
“Todd and Shane are both willing to learn, self-motivated and have the right attitude. They are making a valuable contribution to the success of Barnbrook Systems while also developing their own careers.”
Trainee design engineer Todd, 20, of Gosport, started at Barnbrook Systems after completing a mechanical engineering level 3 qualification at Fareham College’s Centre of Excellence in Engineering and Manufacturing Advance Skills Training (CEMAST).
He said: “I am learning a wide variety of new skills and want to concentrate on developing a career in design engineering
“I would encourage other young people to consider an apprenticeship as you don’t have the debt associated with university but you are paid while leaning and gaining experience in a job.”
Trainee technician Shane, 26, of Fareham, added: “There is a great team at Barnbrook, which means everyone gets on well and works hard for the company.”
Barnbrook Systems managing director Tony Barnett has also recruited graduate engineer Lee Wei Jack, 25. Jack has a masters degree in mechanical engineering (M Eng) from the University of Southampton.
Family-owned Barnbrook Systems has clients worldwide in multiple sectors, including aerospace, defence, rail, maritime and commercial industries.
It is a former winner at the UK Rail Industry Awards, Light Rail Industry Awards, Solent Business Awards and South Coast Business Awards.
One of the firm’s young employees won the PETA Training and Consultancy Services Apprentice of the Year Award in 2014.
The company celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and will be attending the Farnborough International Airshow for the 12th consecutive time in July.
