An innovative Fareham firm has claimed silver at national manufacturing awards for its aerospace excellence.

Barnbrook Systems Ltd claimed the runner-up spot in at the prestigious Made in the UK Awards held at the Merseyside Maritime Museum in Liverpool.

The 35-strong company was honoured in the Aerospace and Defence category for the impact of its cutting-edge BlueCube technology.

Andrew Barnett, chief technology officer and BlueCube inventor, said: “To be recognised as one of the best two aerospace and defence manufacturers in the UK is tremendously satisfying for all at Barnbrook Systems.

“The success is down to all of our dedicated team who have worked incredibly hard to place our family-run firm on the map alongside household names in the world of aviation and defence.

“The awards ceremony was also a great opportunity to meet like-minded manufacturers with exciting and innovative ideas for the future of the industry.”

Barnbrook Systems, based in Fareham Park Road, was recognised after winning a six-figure contract with aerospace giant Leonardo at 2016’s Farnborough International Airshow for its trailblazing BlueCube-enabled Refuelling Switch.

The Refuelling Switch allows safer and more efficient inflight refuelling of helicopters, deemed to be an in-class world first.

Barnbrook won a place in the national Made in the UK finals after scooping the aerospace title at the Made in the South East Awards.

The SC Group-Global – a military vehicle manufacturer – just beat Barnbrook Systems for the national award after winning a £75m deal with the Australian government.

Barnbrook Systems is a designer, developer and manufacturer of electronic and electro-mechanical switching devices and systems for aerospace, defence, maritime, rail and commercial industries worldwide.

Its BlueCube and accompanying iSense software – all designed and manufactured in house – can track nearly any function on an such an asset as a train or helicopter in real-time to make sure it keeps running efficiently.

The innovative system can be used across any sector, including marine, automotive and security and forms a key component in the Internet Of Things.
