Tiny tots from Bournemouth received a special treat when a popular children’s author gave them their very own personal reading.
Christine Roberts, who wrote The Very Shy Picture Book, treated youngsters at the Bournemouth Day Nursery with a reading of the story.
The writer, who is based in the town, also gave them a sneak preview of her next book, The Sleepy Traffic Light.
Bournemouth Day Nursery Owner, Natalie Steele, said: “It’s wonderful to have a published children’s author based so close to us who can come in and encourage a love of books in our little ones.
“Children are never too young to start enjoying books; in fact we believe the younger they are introduced to story telling the better.”
Christine, who has a MA in Creative Writing, worked in Health Psychology before becoming an author in 2013.
The Very Shy Picture Book is a rhyming story about how a book overcomes shyness thanks to the help of some animals.
In addition to writing books she also pens poetry and computer animation stories for pre-school children.
She said: “I always enjoy reading at nursery schools and was pleased to be invited back to the Bournemouth Day Nursery.
“It’s delightful to see the youngsters’ enthusiasm and, along with the staff, I’m passionate about them learning to love books.
“I like to write in rhyming verse, which I believe children particularly enjoy, and which helps them along the road in their early reading.”
Bournemouth Day Nursery looks after up to 135 children at its sites in Talbot Woods and Lansdowne.
