High-flying students from Dorset’s top performing state school are set to spread their wings with solicitors
The initiative is being run by Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) to strengthen links between education and business.
Head teacher Alistair Brien and Year 10 students welcomed Lester Aldridge head of HR Michelle Ripsold and head of marketing Lesley Fereti as well as Young Chamber Programme co-ordinator Will Montgomery and DCCI senior vice-president Paul Tansey.
Mr Brien said: “BSG has a strong commitment to developing enterprise education and links with business.
“We are particularly pleased to be working with DCCI and Lester Aldridge to develop these links and help prepare our girls for the world of work.”
Their first event under the new Young Chamber Programme will be a mock tribunal when pupils return to school in September.
Michelle said: “BSG is a brilliant school where we have already been building links and this will enable us to develop this relationship even further through the Young Chamber Programme.
“It is important for us to sponsor a school in our local community and to encourage girls to consider law as a potential career.”
Students from all school years will take part in Young Chamber Programme activities.
Paul said: “A terrific number of Dorset Chamber’s members have said they are prepared to help schools and the Young Chamber Programme is an inspirational way to do this.
“I would encourage schools to embrace the opportunity and to make it work for them.”
BSG, in Castle Gate Close, is the second grammar school to join the Programme, after Parkstone, and the 14th school in total.
Its 1,100 students include 300 in the sixth form. It has an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating and is the top performing state school in Dorset and Hampshire based on 2016 GCSE and A level results.
Lester Aldridge is a full service Legal 500 law firm with offices in Bournemouth, Southampton and London. It is a DCCI Platinum Business Partner.
DCCI is Dorset’s leading business support organisation with 800 members representing more than 37,000 employees.
