The Managing Director of the national Berry Recruitment Group (BRG) and two staff cycled more than 100 miles to raise money for the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Chris Chown, Beth Sarson and Jade Smith chose the cancer charity because it was where Tony Berry, BRG’s founder and chairman, received treatment before he passed away last year.
The plucky pedalers set off from central London, cycled to Chelmsford in Essex then returned to the capital and finished on Tower Bridge.
Sponsorship and a donation from the St Albans-headquartered BRG meant £5,000 was raised during the ‘Ride London’ event that attracted thousands of cyclists.
Chris, who completed the course in 5hrs 38mins, said: “We were very much motivated by raising money for the Royal Marsden.
“Our founder and chairman Tony Berry had received wonderful treatment and care there and having lost him last year we wanted to do something in return.
“Beth and Jade from our marketing department joined me on the course and everybody was very generous with the sponsorship.
“It was a tiring day but there was plenty of camaraderie and good humour and the wonderful people of Essex were out in good voice, supporting providing plenty of encouragement.
“Staff across our near-40 branches are always raising money for local good causes and it’s something we always encourage.”
The Royal Marsden opened in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education.
It operates from two centres, in Chelsea and Sutton, and along with its partner, the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), is ranked in the top five cancer centres in the world for the impact of their research.
BRG operates four brands; Berry Recruitment, Wild Recruitment, Wild Berry Associates and First Recruitment Services.
