Schoolgirl Brooke Hall is following in the footsteps of her recruitment manager mum by ‘taking on’ adults to join her in Race for Life.
Baden-Powell School pupil Brooke, 11, has signed up her mum Vicki Reeks and Vicki’s colleague Rachel Wilson, who both work for Poole and Bournemouth recruitment specialist TeamJobs.
Vicki, the Industrial Manager at TeamJobs explained: “Brooke and I were watching television when an advert for Race for Life came on.
“A close family member has battled breast cancer and colleagues at TeamJobs have also been diagnosed with bowel and breast cancer in the last six months, so we have been very closely touched by the horrendous effects of cancer.
“Brooke said she wanted to take part and asked me to do it with her. As soon as I said yes she was on the phone to Rachel signing her up too!”
The trio will take place in the Bournemouth seafront Race for Life on June 9th.
The event is organised by the national charity Cancer Research UK and its female participants run, walk or jog a 5k route.
Brooke is no stranger to fundraising. She recently planned and carried out a solo sponsored walk from Sandbanks to Bournemouth Pier for Children in Need, raising £150.
Staff from TeamJobs have also run and biked in events including the Bournemouth Marathon Festival for local charities.
Brooke said: “I’m really looking forward to Race for Life. Although I know it is going to be quite an emotional experience too.
“Rachel has done it before and says there is a really great atmosphere.
“We are now doing some practice runs around Poole Park for the event and we want to raise as much as possible for Cancer Research UK. Around £500 if we can.”
