A striking block of new student flats in Portsmouth have had the finishing sparkles applied to them by a Hampshire-based cleaning company.

Cleaning Operations UK serviced flats and the communal area in the 24-storey Greetham Street building, with team members having worked over 1,000 hours in the final week to ensure they are habitable for the start of the academic year in September.

Before the official handover the company deep-cleaned 761 single-bed rooms, plus 75 studio flats and 85 kitchens, including the communal area on level 19.

Natalija Morkotune, operations manager, said: “We have done all the cleaning from top to bottom.

“When the tradesmen finished we went in and applied the finishing touches, what we call the ‘sparkles’, before the students come and live in the flats.”

Cleaning Operations UK founder and managing director Luzia Holloway was delighted with both the standard of finish and the work ethic of her team.

She said: “We are very pleased with the end result and so were our clients. It was a big task and took over 20 team members for the final push doing a tremendous amount of work.

“They were there for ten hours a day before the handover, so in total the team got through over 1,000 man hours in the final week and they did a fantastic job.”

Rising high into the Portsmouth skyline, the vibrant Greetham Street building is flecked with eye-catching yellow tiles and is located next to Portsmouth and Southsea railway station.

The building is owned by the UK’s largest developer and manager of purpose-built student accommodation, Unite Students, which will house 49,000 students in university cities in England and Scotland this year.

It was built by RG Group, which specialises in the retail, student accommodation and commercial sectors of the construction industry and has also constructed a block of student flats for Unite on Olympic Way leading to Wembley Stadium.

Earlier this year Cleaning Operations UK welcomed marketing officer Louise Coe to the team. The firm, based in Fareham, Hampshire provides a rapid-response service offering industrial and commercial cleaning and maintenance to a host of businesses in the region.

Luzia founded the company 15 years ago and has built up a list of prestigious clients, taking the business across the nation and abroad to high-status events including the Geneva and Paris motor shows.
