Delegates invited to ‘grill a barrister’

Delegates at TeamJobs’ latest HR Forum were invited to ‘grill’ barrister and employment tribunal judge Stephen Wyeth.

Mr Wyeth, from 3BP Barristers in Bournemouth, gave a presentation entitled: ‘Employment Tribunal tips and tactics – a view from the bench’, before opening the floor to questions.

Hayley Cook, the HR manager at backpack manufacturer Osprey Europe, based in Poole, was attending the Forum the first time.

She said: “Employment tribunals are a hugely complex issue, but Stephen’s presentation was both straightforward and thought provoking and I think we will all leave today feeling better informed.”

Set up by Poole and Bournemouth-based recruitment specialist TeamJobs in 2015, the quarterly HR Forums are held at Steele Raymond, in Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, and give human resources professionals the chance to discuss topical issues, share best practice and receive valuable legal updates.

Around 20 companies were represented at the June Forum, including Astute Ltd of Poole and Stress Right.

Chloe Fear, HR manager at , said: “As the standalone HR professional at my company, it’s great to be involved in a Forum with people who face the same daily challenges and to benefit from each others’ experiences and knowledge.

“The conversation was very lively today and I think Stephen’s advice has given many of us better peace of mind about dealing with a very difficult issue.”

TeamJobs’ MD Jason Gault, who chaired the meeting, said: “The law regarding employment tribunals is a key issue in human resources and for employers of any size.

“Stephen’s expertise and articulate delivery have made for a fascinating Forum today and the feedback from delegates has already been hugely positive.”

The Forum’s resident employment law specialist, Amy Cousineau Massey, of Steele Raymond, also gave her regular employment law update, highlighting findings from the new Gender Pay Reporting Regulations which came into force in April 2017.

TeamJobs’ HR Forums are free to attend but due to their popularity places are limited to one per company and local HR professionals.
