Tax expert Frances Kingsnorth has been awarded a distinction after passing an exam to achieve the highest level of tax qualification in the UK.

The PKF Francis Clark business services senior manager sailed through the advanced corporation tax part of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) exams run by the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Frances, 32, is based at the Salisbury office of chartered accountants and business advisers PKF Francis Clark after joining the firm from an accountancy practice in Sheffield in April 2013.

She works with a wide range of mostly owner-managed and family businesses, dealing with accounts, audit, tax and varied compliance issues, as well as business planning and other support.

She said: “I wanted to do this qualification because tax is such a key element in getting the right advice to clients. Looking after small businesses is about much more than just preparing their accounts.

“The CTA has been so useful in helping clients with their tax queries and identifying planning opportunities or potential pitfalls before they come up.”

Languages graduate and former voluntary worker Frances added: “It was a very good investment of my time but I am glad not to need to study anymore as balancing that with a full time job is hard.

“I am now hopefully going to use some of my free evenings and weekends to get involved in a local charity as a trustee or something similar as I would love to give more back to the community.”

Salisbury-based PKF Francis Clark Partner Paul Giessler said: “I am delighted for Frances. She is an integral part of our team and I have seen just how hard she has been working on this exam – while still providing a superb service to clients.”

Three PKF Francis Clark Poole office colleagues – Rachel Smith, Georgie McLaughlin and Jonathan Watson – are now fully CTA qualified after receiving the results of their November examinations.

In the Association of Taxation Technicians exams, Gemma Leader (Poole) passed both papers and has only e-assessments left to take while Sam Lavin (Plymouth) passed one exam.

Founded in 1919, PKF Francis Clark has a team of more than 600 people and 60 partners in eight offices across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
