Six Dorset good causes are in line to receive hundreds of pounds after the ‘best ever’ Purbeck 10k run.
Heroes Haven, Swanage Pier, Studland Defibrillator Appeal, Forest Holme Hospice, Julia’s House and the Youth Cancer Trust, Bournemouth, will receive all the profits from this year’s race.
More than 500 runners entered the event which was organised for the fifth year running by Purbeck Runners. It sold out more than a month ahead of race day.
Sponsors for this year’s event included Swanage law firm, Ellis Jones Solicitors.
Bournemouth AC runner John Sharkey won the men’s race with a time of 34.37, just 12 seconds ahead of Poole AC‘s David Broadley on 34.49. Third placed Peter Thompson from Bournemouth AC achieved a time of 34.56.
For the second year running Serena O’Connor, 16, of Poole Runners, triumphed in the Ladies event with a course record of 36.59, beating her 2015 time by 15 seconds.
Emma Dews of Bournemouth AC was second on 38.28 and Isobel Rea of West4Harriers came third with a time of 39.40.
Poole AC and Poole Runners were the Men’s and Ladies team winners respectively.
Ross Wayne, Purbeck Runners’ Race Organiser, said: “The atmosphere at this year’s event was the best yet and we’ve had some great feedback from runners.

Purbeck Runners was formed eight years ago and has grown to more than 200 members with an active junior section.
According to the club, the Purbeck 10k, which starts and ends at the Norden park and ride site on the outskirts of Corfe Castle, has established itself as a ‘must do’ event in the Dorset running calendar.
The 2015 event raised £1,000 apiece for Swanage Disabled Club and the Friends of Swanage Hospital.
