ELECTION DAY: Ian Girling, the chief executive of the Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, wants a business-friendly government
As the general election approaches on Thursday June 8, Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) chief executive Ian Girling has outlined his hopes for a business friendly Government. ‘A Government which listens is one we can do business with,’ he says.
“In the most significant general election for a generation, it has never been more important to have a strong turnout from those in the business community.
“They need to make their voices heard at the ballot box as we face protracted and challenging Brexit negotiations ahead.
“We need a business-friendly Government which will listen to our voice during these discussions whilst also placing economic growth at the heart of its agenda.
“Our latest Quarterly Economic Survey has shown that businesses in Dorset have remained positive in the face of challenging circumstances and economic headwinds.
Election
“This election and Brexit negotiations are just the latest hurdles to negotiate. Our members’ continued resilience has been incredibly impressive yet they need certainty to be able invest, recruit, grow and drive Dorset’s economy.
“I hope a clear cut victory for one party rather than a coalition Government will deliver greater clarity on Brexit as well as long term investment and support for business.
“Backing business to create a strong and resilient economy will do more than nearly anything to make sure that Britain is ready to stand with confidence on the world stage after Brexit.”
He added: “As Dorset’s voice of business, we will be lobbying through the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) to make sure the new Government is in no doubt whatsoever about our views.
“A Government which listens is one we can do business with.”
