An expanding business is celebrating its 10th anniversary by raising much needed funds for good causes in a series of charity challenges.
Portmore Insurance’s year of fundraising culminates in a sparkling gala dinner for 410 paying guests at the Hilton Ageas Bowl on Friday. (Oct 7)
The Southampton-based firm has been raising cash throughout 2016 for Hampshire homelessness charity Society of St James, and the Lahna Appeal which buys equipment for Southampton General Hospital.
Commercial business insurance specialist, Portmore directors Graham Jacobs and Paul Chapman will welcome clients, insurance companies, service providers, colleagues and families to the celebratory dinner.
Graham said: “This final event of our charity year will be a celebration of our first 10 years and a chance to give an extra boost to these worthy causes.
“Every single penny we have raised goes to the charities because Portmore is covering all external costs. We are at £48,000 at present and the dinner is likely to take us through £60,000.
“I am a great believer that if you are lucky enough to be running a successful business you do have a responsibility to give something back to the community and our tenth anniversary year has been an opportunity to do this.”
Former Lloyd’s broker Graham added: “We are a growing company in the top 100 UK insurance brokers and taking on more people every year. We are very proud of how far we have come in a decade.”
The gala dinner, for which firms have paid up to £3,000 to sponsor, includes a charity auction hosted by well-known compere Denis Bundy.
Top lots include Blue Water Charter’s Sunseeker Portofino 53 for a day, a week in a French gîte and four tickets for the England v South Africa ODI at the Ageas Bowl.

This follows the company’s Portmore to Paris charity cycle challenge in which 13 staff members rode the 250 kilometres from the company’s Test Lane base to the Eiffel Tower via Portsmouth, Le Havre and Évreux.
Graham, who took part, added: “The event was a wonderful reminder of what a great team spirit we have here at Portmore. We have a very strong core family and this reinforces the fact that we are very together.”
Other events included a 24-hour indoor triathlon at Portmore’s headquarters, a 26-mile walk on the Isle of Wight and a 100k trek on the South Downs Way.

The Portmore Group encompasses three distinct divisions designed to provide a complete insurance solution for businesses or individuals. Portmore was established in 2006 in response to what it’s directors perceived was a need for a provider who could offer the service levels of a niche broker but with the placement capability of a national broker. Market capabilities extend from Lloyd’s underwriters and London market insurers through to Global insurance operators. Portmore was named Compass Networks Broker of the Year in 2015
