Bournemouth’s Oak Academy has seen its GCSE results increase across the board.
Overall, 40% achieved the standard grade 4 and above in English and maths – an increase of 5% on last year.
And this year more than half of all students (54%) achieved at least the standard pass of grade 4 in maths – an increase of 10% on last year.
It’s a similar story for English, with 52% securing a grade 4 or above – an increase of 5% on last year.
Among the many success stories was Jess Potter who secured the coveted grade 9 in maths.
In English and maths the numerical grades 9 to 1 have replaced A* to G, with 9 being even higher than an A*.
Jess, who is going on to study maths and further maths at A-level, also scored three As in chemistry, physics and statistics.
Stefan Stoleriu achieved nine A*s and As, Robyn Arthur had 12 A*s to Bs, Sam Potts achieved 10 A*s to Bs and Luca Blahut, whose first language is not English, secured grade Bs in Maths, English and Science.

Principal Richard Burgas, said: “I am delighted that our results have risen across the board and this is testament to the hard work put in by both teachers and students.
“I am very proud of them all.”
In addition to seeing rises in the core academic subjects Oak Academy, shortly to be part of Ambitions Academies Trust (AAT), also saw increases in the arts and vocational subjects.
There was a significant increase of 20% in A*-C grades for students in Art and an even higher increase of 42% in A*-C grades in business Studies. Whilst in health and social care an impressive 97% of students secured the top grades.
