Golf day will help make wishes come true

A day out on the golf course will help make wishes come true for children with life-threatening illnesses this autumn.

Round Table Children’s Wish has scheduled its annual charity golf day at Dudsbury Golf Club in Ferndown for Friday October 16. It was originally planned for next month but has been postponed because of Covid-19 government guidelines.

The charity is hoping that, after all the restrictions of lockdown, golfers will enjoy spending a day together on the course for a very good cause.

October 16 is a special date for Bournemouth-based Round Table Children’s Wish as it marks the charity’s 30th anniversary.

Although granting wishes has had to be put on hold during the Covid-19 crisis, the charity is continuing to fundraise so its work can resume as soon as possible.

The cost of the golf day is £60 per player – £240 for a team of four – and there is also a varied range of sponsorship packages which enable businesses to promote themselves to an audience of golfers and business owners.

The day begins with a hot drink and bacon bap for the golfers before they tackle 18 holes. There are competitions for nearest the pin and the longest drive.

A two-course late lunch follows, along with a raffle, auction and prize-giving.

Over the last 30 years Round Table Children’s Wish has helped make wishes come true for many youngsters and their families, and all the money raised at the golf day will help continue this work.

The wishes have ranged from family holidays to Disneyland, meetings with famous heroes or a longed-for present, bringing hope and happiness to families undergoing enormous stress.

Round Table Children’s Wish fundraising officer Clare Kyrillou said: “We’re sorry that our golf day has had to be postponed, but the decision was taken to protect the safety of our golfers and comply with current restrictions on group gatherings and social distancing measures.

“We know our golfers will understand why we had to postpone, but we’re hoping for a bumper golf day on our rescheduled date in October – our 30th anniversary.

“We’d love colleagues, friends and family members to get a team together and join us – it’s for a great cause and it’s always a fun day.”
