Former King of the Jungle Harry swings by charity auction launch

Former I’m a Celebrity winner Harry Redknapp and his wife Sandra swung by Christchurch to launch an online art auction in aid of the ‘Mac Unit’ hospice.

The ‘Canvas for the Mac’ auction will see dozens of signed canvas artworks, doodles, sketches and lyrics by well-known names from the worlds of TV, sport, art and music, ‘brought to life’ by artists and auctioned online from November 25th.

All money raised through the event will go the charity Macmillan Caring Locally which is raising funds to create a new, modern Macmillan Unit in the grounds of Christchurch Hospital, which provides palliative care and support for over 1600 people and their families every year.

Harry and Sandra attended a preview of some of the artworks on offer at The Captain’s Club Hotel and Spa in Christchurch, which sponsored the event (on November 3).

Harry met with supporters and nursing staff from the Macmillan Unit, as well as many artists who have given their time to turn the celebrity signings into works of art for the auction.

Posing in front of some of the sports-themed canvases, which include Marcus Rashford, Leah Williamson, Gareth Southgate and Eddie Howe, Harry urged fans to grab a unique memento of their favourite celeb.

Joking: “I’m in great company here!” he added: “There are some fabulous canvases here featuring some really famous people.

“I hope fans will go online and bag themselves a really unique piece of memorabilia whilst also helping the Mac Unit, which provides such outstanding care to so many patients and their families each year.”

Other celebrities who have signed canvases for the auction include Ricky Gervais, Martin Clunes, Sir David Jason, Howard, Gary and Mark from Take That and Queen guitarist Brian May.

All canvases are also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and where possible, a photograph of the celebrity creating them.

The Canvas for the Mac auction will take place online for 10 days from November 25th.
