Top banker Julie Baker shared the secrets of her success when she addressed a new networking group for female professionals.

Julie, Head of Enterprise for NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland Business Banking, was guest speaker at the second meeting of the Wessex Women’s Professional Networking Group.

The group was launched earlier this year by Erin Davis, Tax Director with chartered accountants and business advisers PKF Francis Clark.

More than 30 female professionals, including accountants, solicitors, chartered surveyors, independent financial advisers and bankers, attended the event at the Grasmere House Hotel in Salisbury. They came from Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and Wiltshire.

Julie’s presentation, called ‘Having a successful career in a man’s world’, described her career path to a senior role at NatWest.

She outlined the factors that helped including a willingness to step outside her comfort zone, having key supporters within the business and finding innovative ways of juggling a demanding career with a happy home life and bringing up two children.

Erin said Julie’s ‘inspirational’ address had gone down well with the 31 attendees.

She added: “It’s great to bring so many women together from different professions to network in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy talks from a variety of speakers.

“I decided to launch the group, with the support of PKF Francis Clark, after identifying a lack of events for female professionals. Having now held two successful events with over 30 women attending there clearly is a demand.”

Julie said: “We know the enormous value that female entrepreneurs can add to the economy, but we also know the different challenges women sometimes face.”

The next event is on Thursday October 13 at the Grasmere House Hotel, Salisbury.

Afternoon tea will be followed by a presentation from Anita Marsh, of House of Colour. She will be explaining how wearing the right colours help to better express personality and build confidence.
