Hotelier reveals the secrets of her success

A leading Bournemouth hotelier revealed some of the secrets of her success when she gave a talk to fellow family businesses.

Rosie Wallace, Managing Director of the Marsham Court Hotel, was joined by her brother, James Dixon-Box, for the presentation at the hotel’s East Cliff site.

Rosie explained that the Edwardian Marsham Court is one of Bournemouth’s last remaining family owned and operated hotels.

It was bought from De Vere by her mother, Jennie Deavin, in 1987 and has since  undergone an ambitious £1.5million refurbishment transforming the bedrooms, lobby, bar and conferencing facilities.

The Marsham Court is currently Bournemouth’s Large Hotel of the Year and recently won Dorset Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Business Engagement with Education Award.

Nick Love, a Partner with PKF Francis Clark which jointly organises and hosts the Family Business Club with Frettens Solicitors and NatWest, said: “Rosie and James gave a fascinating insight into the daily challenges involved in running a busy hotel, including dealing with online bookings and staffing.

“They also spoke proudly of their family’s support for local and national charities. It was an excellent talk.”

The Family Business Club is a forum specifically for family owned businesses in Hampshire and Dorset.

Its objective is to create a confidential forum for family businesses, to hear from other successful family business leaders and to discuss issues and challenges specific to their sector.
