A Portsmouth-based law firm emerged triumphant from the Hampshire Incorporated Law Society (HILS) annual awards ceremony.

Biscoes scooped the prestigious HILS award for Firm of the Year (small) at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard event, beating off hot competition from a shortlist of Hampshire law firms.

Managing director Alison Lee said: “We are delighted to have won this award. It is a reflection of the brilliant team at Biscoes and this achievement is down to every single one of our great staff.

“I am very proud of this achievement – it is the icing on the cake during a big year of expansion for Biscoes, including our merger with Graeme Quar & Co.”

Alison and Biscoes director colleagues Jane Hodge and Tim Gamester collected their award from former England, Liverpool, Newcastle and Southampton footballer Kevin Keegan, who was guest speaker at the HILS annual dinner.

Biscoes, which traces its roots back 162 years, employs 100 staff at six offices in Portsmouth, Gosport, Portchester, Wickham, Waterlooville and Petersfield.

For the HILS awards, firms and individuals within the Hampshire legal sector nominated candidates across six categories, which included large and small firms, best solicitor, best junior solicitor and best bank and accountant working a legal firm.

Alison added: “To be able to say that we have been judged by our peers as the best firm in our category in the county is an outstanding achievement and certainly demonstrates that the care and expertise with which we treat clients is being recognised.”

HILS is the long-established law profession network group in Hampshire. Its main role of the society is to support the profession by offering training, organising social events and representing members’ interests.

Biscoes Law is a member of a number of professional associations, including the Law Society, Hampshire Law Society, The Notaries Society, the Charity Law Association, Portsmouth Property Association and Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.

The practice is also part of LawNet, the UK and Ireland’s leading network of independent law firms promoting excellence and providing a range of benefits for members.
