Bournemouth’s Avonbourne Trust has been awarded a prestigious leadership award for inspirational teaching.

The Prince’s Teaching Institute (PTI) rewards schools that develop inspirational ideas and activities which enhance the teaching of key subjects regardless of their students’ backgrounds.

And both Avonbourne and Harewood colleges have received this official recognition for how it teaches across the curriculum.

CEO of Avonbourne Trust, Debbie Godfrey-Phaure, said: “We take great pride in inspiring our students to learn and we are delighted that this has been officially recognised.

“Our aim in all we do is to motivate our students so we create a life-long enthusiasm for learning.

“I’m proud of my teaching staff as they go that extra mile to increase their own knowledge in order to share with our students.”

The PTI Schools Programme is open to all state secondary schools in England.

To become members, school departments must demonstrate their commitment to increasing teachers’ subject knowledge and to further their students’ understanding.

And in order to achieve the PTI leadership mark, subject leaders have to show how they have made the curriculum more challenging while developing teaching staff’s specialist knowledge.

The mark also recognises departments that develop links outside of schools and motivates students through subject-based activities that go beyond the curriculum.

Avonbourne Trust has forged close partnerships with outside organisations, such as JP Morgan, Wartsilla Engineering and Silicon South, to strengthen students’ employability in the local and global workforce.
