New mums using the Florence House mother and baby unit in Bournemouth can now get about more easily thanks to Yellow Buses and the Daily Echo.
The donation of £200 will enable the mums to use the buses to get to and from the unit off Alumhurst Road
The money comes from the Carbon Stoppers initiative that is run by Yellow Buses and the Echo and has handed out nearly £20,000 to charities and good causes since its launch in 2008.
Each week the Yellow Buses holds a ‘Thank You Thursday’ when every trip taken by passengers on the day contributes to a separately administered Community Chest.
Florence House is the base for the NHS Perinatal Community Mental Health team, which helps mums with problems such as postnatal depression.
Lucy McPhail, perinatal service director, said: “We treat mums in the community but we also have a five bed ward here.
“Some of the mums find it hard to get here and this money will enable them to use the buses.”
Terri Hignett from Yellow Buses said: “Florence House provides such an important service in the community.
“If this donation helps the mums get there and back on the bus then it will have provided a very important service.”
