A Bournemouth primary school has received special recognition for providing the best start to their children’s education.

Avonwood Primary, part of Avonbourne Trust, was officially recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ early years provision by Bournemouth Borough Council.

The school’s entire Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) teaching team attended an awards ceremony hosted by the council.

Headteacher, Chris Jackson, said: “This recognition is very well deserved and a reflection on the amazing progress to date of our EYFS team, led by the brilliant Kim Williams.

“We are very proud to have been recognised for excellence within our Early Years provision.

“Our early years’ team is exceptionally dedicated; making sure every child at Avonwood makes a smooth transition from their nursery setting into their school life.”

Avonwood is Bournemouth’s newest primary school, opening in 2014 to meet the town’s growing need for school places.

In 2017 it received its first Ofsted inspection and was rated ‘Good’ overall, with outstanding features.

Mr Jackson added: “This award from Bournemouth Borough Council is gratefully received and hopefully another milestone in our ambition to be graded ‘Outstanding’ at all levels.”
