Parkfield secondary parents take a tour of new Hurn site

Parents of Year 6 children have enjoyed a guided tour of the secondary school at Parkfield School’s new Hurn site.

The visit was arranged by Parkfield for parents who are making their secondary school choices for September 2017.

Martina Spooner was among the parents who surveyed new IT suites, art rooms and science labs, as well as a performance theatre, toilets and a servery/canteen.

She said: “I’ve been really blown away by the space and all the new equipment is certainly impressive.

“We have been at Parkfield from the beginning and remain committed to it. My daughter is very excited about going into secondary school and coming to the new building.”

Parkfield, Bournemouth’s first Free School, opened in September 2013 and is directly funded by central government, independent of local authority control.

Covering children of primary and secondary ages it is currently located at Dorset House in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth.

Alex Prout, Parkfield’s Acting Executive Head Teacher, said: “It was great to show our Year 6 parents the secondary school’s high spec classrooms, study rooms and creative areas and to explain how the entire school has been expertly designed to maximise their children’s learning.

“They and all our parents have had to wait much longer than they should have for this building and we are deeply grateful for their patience and for supporting what we are trying to achieve.”

Through carpeting will be installed in the secondary school building this week, with furniture due in November.
