Recruiters unbowed by pier pressure

A band of exuberant recruiters are preparing to run from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier and back, in support of cancer sufferers.

Staff from Dorset-based TeamJobs have signed up to run in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival.

Seven people from across the company’s divisions will be tackling the night time 5K Supernova event from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier and back, with one further runner signed up to take part in the half marathon.

All money raised through their sponsorship will go to Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF)

TeamJobs Technical Team leader Rob Bruce, said: “This is the second time we have fielded a team of runners in the marathon festival to support DCCF.

“It’s a great charity which gives cash grants to local cancer sufferers facing financial hardships and we have also supported the charity through our Christmas jumper days and a secret Santa appeal.”

The marathon festival takes place from October 6-7, 2018 and attracts thousands of runners from across the country.

Rob added: “I’m not promising great running times from the team! Some of us are fitter than others. But I know we will tackle it with much enthusiasm.

“We have all had relatives and friends who have been touched by cancer in some way and knowing we will be raising money for sufferers here in Dorset will really spur us on to do the best we can.”

DCCF was formed in 2012 to help cancer patients meet the cost of everything from transport to and from hospital, to childcare and much-needed short breaks.

The charity has also funded an overnight treatment room at Lewis Manning Hospice in Poole, a teen cancer patients’ chill out room at Poole Hospital and part of a therapeutic garden at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The TeamJobs runners are Rob Bruce, Lauren Harris, Yasmin Cottrell, Vicki Reeks, Michelle Mitchell, Becca Milliner, Lucy Eaton and Hannah Kemp.
