St Mary’s CE First School in West Moors has been declared ‘awesome’ in its latest Ofsted report.

A Dorset school has been declared ‘awesome’ by Ofsted inspectors.

St Mary’s CE First School and Nursery in West Moors has been officially judged Good again in its recent Ofsted inspection.

In his report, lead inspector Alexander Baxter said the school, part of Heath Academy Trust, was passionate and supportive of its motto “Believe in better and be more awesome.”

Mr Baxter concluded: “St Mary’s has several key strengths, most notably a strong Christian community ethos, which underpins the pupils’ exemplary attitudes to learning.

“Your passionate promotion of the school motto ‘Believe in better…be more awesome’ is fully supported by staff and the pupils themselves.

“This has established a positive learning atmosphere in all classes that securely supports the pupils’ good progress and achievement.”

The report highlighted that the school’s recent acquisition of a neighbouring nursery was already reaping benefits in early years.

It was also noted how almost all parents who took part in an Ofsted survey said they were highly satisfied with the school.

Other highlights in the report included that school leaders have a relentless drive for improvement and disadvantaged children are making fast progress – and in some cases even closing the gap with other pupils.

Celebrating their good Ofsted report, St Mary's First School, West Moors headteacher Roy Sewell, Heath Academy Trust chief executive headteacher Justine Horn and pupils.
