Airline technology set for take-off

AIRLINE: Sky is the limit for FliteTrak

AIRLINE: Sky is the limit for FliteTrak

Next generation technology to transform passenger comfort with ‘intelligent airline seating’ is being launched at the Hamburg Aircraft Interiors Expo.

Amersham-based FliteTrak is unveiling its innovative ViatorAero system in front of industry executives at AIX 2017 on April 4 to 6.

Underpinned by multi award-winning remote condition monitoring technology, ViatorAero can observe individual seats for temperature, movement and seatbelt closure. It also has the capacity for locking overhead bins – during take-off, landing and turbulence – for safety as well as cabin environment monitoring.

The cutting-edge technology – using wireless sensors below rows of seats – can be monitored directly by cabin attendants live on tablet or mobile device in real time during flight.

Data is also logged for later analysis and can provide useful information to help improve maintenance turnaround times on major components and enhance the flying experience for passengers.

Airline safety and comfort

Trevor Lea, joint managing director of FliteTrak, said: “The future of air travel must be based on enhancing the passenger experience through sensible application of technology.

“Our ViatorAero passenger comfort system has the power to make intelligent seating a reality for enhanced safety, comfort and inflight enjoyment of passengers.

“It can also revolutionise the role of the flight attendant by assisting them to provide enhanced customer service whilst also monitoring passengers of concern.

“ViatorAero is unique, technology which propels the Internet of Things into the sky, giving visionary airlines and suppliers the edge in an increasingly competitive market.

“We would be delighted to give more details during the Expo on our stand in Hall 2 U40.”

ViatorAero is based on advanced iBlox technology which uses small sensors to monitor any function on an asset – including trains, boats and aircraft – such as temperature, air pressure and engine performance.

Data is beamed from the sensors to tablet, desktop or mobile device for use in an app showing individual aeroplane seats.

Examples of ViatorAero use:

  • Highlights to attendants which passengers have seatbelts open.  This can save valuable time during visual checking, especially during turbulence.
  • Movement sensors to allow monitoring passengers who are unwell, in need of assistance, agitated or disruptive.
  • Passenger movement during flights can be analysed after the flight
  • Logging of broken equipment such as trays, seatbelts and screens can be recorded and the data handed to maintenance crews for rapid correction

All data is treated in confidence and not connected with individual passenger names although airlines may request a bespoke system to predict personal passenger preferences.

FliteTrak is based in the UK with its head office in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, and an innovations hub at Solent Business Park in Whiteley, Hampshire.

All of its systems, sensors and services are designed and managed in the UK with security and data integrity of paramount importance.

The Hamburg AIX is one of the world’s leading event for airlines and the supply chain to source the latest innovations, technologies and products for the cabin interiors, inflight entertainment and passenger comfort industries.
