Yellow Buses to boost evening services and launch night bus

Yellow Buses is introducing new evening and night services

Based on last summer’s experience, the company says fewer people are travelling to town centres to visit retailers.

Instead more people are travelling in the afternoon and evening for leisure purposes.

Simon Newport, Yellow Buses’ Head of Commercial, said: “In some cases last summer we were experiencing capacity problems on journeys departing the town centre after 10pm.

“We are reacting to this by introducing extra journeys throughout the evening from April 7 in our new summer timetable and also starting a new night bus service.

“These improvements to the bus network are being taken at our own commercial risk because we believe that there are opportunities to carry extra people.

“We will be working with the night time economy team to promote these additional journeys and help locals and visitors alike to get home easily and safely after a good night out.”

Changes for the new summer timetable include:

  • Doubling the frequency of services on route 5/5a to every 15 minutes during the evening. This means that up to around 10pm there will be a bus operating every seven/eight minutes from the town centre to the railway station and Charminster between routes 3/5/5a.
  • A new night bus service – ‘Night 1’ – on Friday and Saturday nights operating – every 30 minutes from 12.30am to 4am between Westbourne, Bournemouth, Boscombe, Pokesdown, Iford and Christchurch. ‘Night 5’ will also run Fridays and Saturdays every 30 minutes between The Square, railway station, Charminster, Winton, Moordown and Bournemouth University campus.
