Yellows’ open top passengers set to top 100,000

More than 100,000 people are likely to have caught one of Yellow Buses’ iconic open top vehicles by the time the operating season ends.

Yellow Buses recorded more than 84,000 passenger journeys on Buster’s Beach Bus between Easter, when the service started, by the end of August.

And with the service continuing to run between Boscombe and Sandbanks – now on a shoulder season hourly timetable – until the end of September, it is expected that the six-figure total will be smashed.

The Bournemouth-based company introduced the open top service, named after the Yellows’ popular mascot, after repeated requests from passengers. It gives great views of coastal scenes and serves many of the resort’s cliff-top hotels.

Buster’s Beach Bus was new for summer 2019, but incorporated a section of route between Bournemouth and Alum Chine which already operated with open top buses.

During the first six weeks of the operation the open-toppers had already carried 24,000 passengers, the vast majority of them holidaymakers, and the success story continued throughout the summer.

David Squire, Managing Director of Yellow Buses said: “For a newly introduced service the number of customers that we have carried has been amazing.  We are really pleased with the success of the open-toppers and they will definitely be back for 2020.”

David, who recently led a management buyout of the company from its French owners, added: “We will be investing in our open top fleet for the summer of 2020 by buying some newly converted vehicles to be branded in our iconic Yellow Bus livery featuring, of course, Buster Bear.”

The extended route with kick off again in time for the Easter school holidays on April 5, 2020.

Timetables for the rest of the 2019 operating season can be found online at www.yellowbuses.co.uk.

Yellow Buses was acquired by its management team – David Squire, Managing Director; Simon Newport, Commercial Director and Phil Pannell, Service Delivery Director – from RATP Dev in a management buyout in July 2019 for an undisclosed sum.
