Bidding war as Essex property sells at auction

An auction bidding war erupted over a unique, detached property with a self-contained annexe and detached double garage in an urban setting north of Southend.

Oakdene in St. Marys Road, Wickford was among 135 lots in the latest auction held by one of the top five property auctioneers in the UK, Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers.

It finally went under the gavel at £470,000 at the firm’s auction which ended on Wednesday 7 February – £170,000 about the guide price.

Senior Auction Appraiser Russell Hawkes said: “This one really took off with competitive bidding driving up the sale price.

“We had considered that this versatile property offered potential for a number of varied uses, and our bidders certainly agreed.

“We felt it was an opportunity for extended families, home-working businesses or even as a residential letting investment, and we will be interested to see what happens.

“It is another example of how interesting, unique or unusual properties do well at Clive Emson auctions.”

The detached property with double garage and annexe is located in an established residential area south of Wickford town centre.

The property was offered with joint auctioneers Let or Sell Properties in Basildon on the instructions of the Power of Attorney.

Clive Emson Auctioneers holds auctions eight times a year offering specialist advice for auction purposes with offices in Essex, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the West Country, selling with skill, speed and efficiency.

The next auction ends on Wednesday, 20 March, with bidding opening 48 hours beforehand. Lot entries close on Monday, 26 February, with the catalogue available from Friday, 1 March.
