Runners’ £44,000 boost to help children’s wishes come true

SUPERHERO: Kellie Clark, one of 31 runners who took on the London Marathon to raise funds for Round Table Children’s Wish

Deserving children will be granted their dearest wishes thanks to the efforts of runners who raised £44,000 for Round Table Children’s Wish.

And now the Dorset-based charity is hoping more runners will be inspired to join the charity’s team for next year’s event, to be held on October 2, 2022.

Thirty-one runners took part in last month’s London Marathon on behalf of the charity – the first one for 889 days – and the fantastic total they raised is helping more wishes come true after a difficult time due to the pandemic.

The event is the biggest fund-raising occasion of the year for the charity which helps children suffering with a life-threatening or terminal illness and their families through the most difficult time of their lives.

Fundraising officer Clare Kyrillou said: “We are beyond grateful for the support and commitment of all our runners – and the amazing total they’ve raised for our work.

“On behalf of everyone at Round Table Children’s Wish we thank them for choosing to help us and our wish children. It was a real pleasure for the charity to see them off at the start line in Greenwich Park – and then to watch them run past at Mile 17 looking strong and still smiling.

“Amongst our team were several members of the Round Table family, a Superhero Pea, first-time marathoners, dedicated ultra-runners and Nick Butter, who had completed 200 marathons in 128 days around Britain’s coastline just six weeks before race day.”

The total raised so far is £44,216 with some sponsorship still to come in.
