Comedy stars announced by Snows in laugh-off competition

COMEDY ACT: Judges and contestants at the Snows Comedy Star 2022 final, held at The Concorde Club at Eastleigh, near Southampton, last night (THURSDAY). The winners are Michael Hackett, the tallest in the middle, and Daniel Edison next to him on the left. Olivia Snow, from automotive retailer Snows, is next to Michael’s right. The winners go on to perform their comedy routines live at Victorious, a three-day music festival in Portsmouth starting on Friday, 26th August. Snows, headquartered in Southampton and celebrating its 60th anniversary, is presenting The Comedy Stage at the festival.

Two rising comedy stars have been chosen in a competition sponsored by automotive retailer Snows in the South.

They get to present their 20-minute routines live on stage at Victorious – the three-day music festival at Southsea, Portsmouth, starting on Friday, 26th August and with headline acts such as Sam Fender, Paolo Nutini and Stereophonics.

It will be a career-defining moment – the winners, from a shortlist of eight, share the stage with big names from the UK comedy circuit, including Katherine Ryan, Joel Dommett, Russell Kane and Milton Jones.

The Comedy Stage is presented by Snows for the first time at this year’s festival, which attracts tens of thousands of people each day.

Snows Comedy Star 2022 reached its competition peak with a laugh-off in front of a panel of judges at The Concorde Club at Eastleigh, near Southampton.

Olivia Snow, Customer Experience Manager at Snows, which has more than 50 franchise dealerships across the South and employs 1,000-plus staff, paid tribute to the nine finalists.

She said: “They say that the most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed, and we had plenty of laughs thanks to the eight finalists. They each had unique, funny routines.

“After much consideration we chose two acts who stood out with the X-factor and we wish them every success at the Snows-sponsored Comedy Stage at Victorious.”

The winners, who also received a prize of £250 each, are Daniel Edison and Michael Hackett.

Daniel said afterwards: “What a night at the Concorde Club – an amazing show and I had a great time with the audience. Loved it and cannot wait to play Victorious. A great experience.”

Michael, tongue in cheek, said: “That you for letting me win that one and I cannot wait for you to give me a free car! Whoo!”

As well as Olivia, the judging panel comprised PM Promotions, Jamie Mathieson from The Concorde and Alex Domone, Snows’ Chief Operating Officer.

Olivia added: “Snows is proud to support local grass roots comedy, given a voice to rising stars. The two winners will be performing on Saturday and Sunday respectively, from 2.20pm to 2.40pm, on the Snows’ Comedy Stage at Victorious and we wish them every success.”

Finalists: Shannon Sumfing, Billy James, Verity Sharpe, Simon Wilson, Michael Hackett, Daniel Edison, Pearse Egan and Luke & Elliott.

As well as 50 dealerships, Snows, in its 60th year and headquartered in Southampton, has three approved service centres, 12 multi-franchise used car centres and a stand-alone accident repair centre.
